RENCI, a UNC institute that builds and deploys advanced technologies to enable research and solve problems, seeks a talented student employee/intern with an interest in website development and web design to serve as Webmaster Student Intern in the communications division. This student will work 15 – 20 hours per week at RENCI headquarters, 100 Europa Drive, Suite 540 (free parking, on D bus route). He/she will be responsible for updating content on the RENCI website and related sites, posting new content, creating new web pages, forms and graphics, and handling web analytics as needed.
The position requires good working knowledge of the WordPress content management system, PHP and Adobe Creative Suite, and an understanding of effective web communications and web design. Experience and classwork in web content management, building web-based forms, creating or editing WordPress themes, web design and web programming is preferred. The ability to create original graphics for websites, and the ability to edit and organized highly technical content are added pluses.
This position is an excellent opportunity for an upper-level undergraduate or graduate student with a strong interest in web development, user interface design, and web communications in a fast-paced research setting. Student web developers with a knowledge of, or an interest in, computing, data science/analytics, or scientific research in biomedicine, or Earth and geosciences are encouraged to apply.
The intern will have the option of using his/her own laptop or a RENCI desktop machine for work onsite. Salary range is $15 – $19/hour depending on level of skills and experience. Students at UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke and NC State are eligible for this position. Projected start date is May 15, 2017, but the exact date is negotiable. End date is August 18, 2017, with the possibility of continuing the position through the fall semester.
