The Social Media Specialist is responsible for planning, creating, and scheduling social posts – along with maintaining reports – for all of RENCI’s affiliated social media accounts in support of RENCI’s internal and external strategic goals and the strategic goals of UNC-Chapel Hill. Anticipated 20 hours per week.
-Develop and maintain timely social media content.
-Expand a community presence on RENCI-affiliated social media channels and engage in ongoing conversations on those channels.
-Work with other content creators in marketing and communications throughout the University and our partner organizations to develop and implement integrated social media initiatives.
-Monitor conversations relevant to RENCI and our community on social media channels and share observations.
-Stay current on social media platform best practices, specifically for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
-Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of RENCI and partner social media accounts and recommend adjustments and modifications as needed.
-Track and report performance via goals and metrics.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred: Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field. At least two years of professional experience in a communications position. Training or experience in science and research and/or education will be advantageous and viewed favorably.
Qualifications and Experience
Specialized knowledge in communication and outreach. Knowledge of marketing, communications planning, and social media best practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Project management skills. Basic graphic design skills. Photography skills and the ability to create or edit short video clips will be advantageous and viewed favorably.
