Gigapixel Imagery

Overview

A photographic display system capable of capturing a gigapixel (one billion pixels) of visual information in a single image. The system provides an overall view of images at a very large scale allowing viewers to visualize extremely fine details. Funded by the state of North Carolina, the technique involves taking several pictures with a digital camera and stitching the sub-images together to form a 3D-like photograph.

View Images of the UNC Belltower, Blue Ridge Mountains, NCSU Stadium and more (featuring Zoomify photo-zooming capability).
